Job Description:
JOB SUMMARYProvides the Mother Standard of care to oncology patients across the adult and geriatric spectrum.
Coordinates a course of treatment for cancer patients with the rest of their oncology team, which can include nurses, advanced practice professionals, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, dietitians, radiologists, surgeons and pathologists.
They prescribe various types of treatment, such as chemotherapy, medications and hormones.
Typical job duties include making cancer diagnoses, keeping records of patients' test results and physical examinations, writing prescriptions, providing specific cancer information to patients, monitoring treatment plans and improving patients' quality of life.
Explain cancer development stages to patients discuss treatment options and assist in pain management.
They care for patients throughout the entire course of cancer treatment, from diagnosis to recovery or death.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for ordering testing, which may include biopsy, imaging procedures and blood test so as to achieve a specific diagnosis.
Reviews test results and determines the stage as well as the type of cancer.
Provides patient with detailed information regarding cancer, the prognosis of the disease and possible interventions or treatment options that the patient may undergo and obtain informed consent as appropriate.
Monitor patients starting from their diagnosis until the entire process of treatment.
Responsible in developing treatment plans according to a great number of factors which covers the nature and type of cancer as well as the patients preferences.
Orders diagnostic test in order to determine patients progress with treatment.
Work to ensure patients feel comfortable through treating their pain and managing any side-effects of the chemotherapy given.
JOB QUALIFICATIONSREQUIREDEducation:
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic MedicineLicensure:
Arizona Physicians LicenseCertification:
Board Eligible or Board Certified in Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.
Training:
Residency in Internal MedicineMedical Oncology FellowshipBoth accredited by the ACGME, the AOA, or equivalent.
